A Word From The Principal

Principal's Message

Prof. (Dr) Sunita Kharel — Principal, SGC Burtuk
Prof. (Dr) Sunita Kharel
Principal
Sikkim Government College Burtuk
"Our aim is to educate and equip our students with knowledge, life skills and ethical values that will not only enable them to become worthy members of society but will also help them respond positively to the challenges and opportunities of our highly transitional society."

Sikkim Government College Burtuk was established in 2012 as the second campus of Sikkim Government College Tadong to meet the increasing demand for higher education in the state. It acquired its own separate identity when it became affiliated to Sikkim University in August 2014.

This institution had a very humble beginning — a few rooms in the DIET building with only 179 students and 8 teachers. Today, SGC Burtuk has its own independent sprawling campus spread over 3.4 hectares at the Old India Press complex in Balwakhani with a current enrolment of 1,149 students.

Situated atop a picturesque hill with a panoramic view of the entire Gangtok town, this college with its quiet, idyllic environment has become ideal for learning and teaching. Our philosophy has always been to provide both individualistic and holistic guidance to our students.
